Geeks With Blogs

About Me:
I am a Female SharePoint Developer (a platinum unicorn). I have been working with SharePoint since I attended the Portal University in 2005. I hold a BA in Computer Science from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. I love playing Rockband, organizing user group meetings, working with code, attending events as a speaker or organizer, and having bizarre conversations about geek things with cool people. If you have any comments or questions fill out the contact form and I will try my best to help.

The Guide of a MOSSLover Becky Isserman's Blog

I used to be envious of those people who could go to every conference.  I would look on twitter and I would watch the streaming keynotes.  I wondered how can I get to these events?  Somehow I did it I’ve been to SharePoint Conference, The Expert’s Conference, and Best Practices Conference plus 31 or so SharePoint Saturdays.  So now what?  Well I finally got to go to TechEd in Atlanta as a HOL instructor.  It’s kind of nice not speaking for once and just helping other people out.  I don’t have as much pressure on me to perform.  I’m kind of burnt out on speaking and need at least the month of June off.  I’ll be at SharePoint Saturday Chicago, but I will not speak.  I am going to attend and volunteer instead.  It will be nice to attend a few sessions and help out with whatever is needed.  I get to see my grandfather that night for dinner and for brunch the next day.  It will be a nice very low key time.  So what next for me?  I honestly have no idea I want to continue speaking and I’d like to speak at a major MS Conference and/or an International Conference, but who knows if that will happen.  I will keep pushing forward, but I just don’t think I will push myself as hard as I have in the past.  It is taking a huge toll on my personal life and it’s just not worth it.  What I’m going to be doing this year is trying to stick to the 1 or less plan for SharePoint Saturdays and Code Camps per month.  I think I might try to go to SPS Austin and Denver and Huntsville if I can pull it off.  In the month of September I am going to attempt to take a nice long vacation that  involves a beach, an island, or somewhere not in the U.S.  My best friend has been to Hawaii twice and I’ve never been.  I would really like to go there or the UK or France.  At the end of the year my boyfriend and I are most likely moving to Hoboken.  I am hoping that I can join a bunch of the NYC Meetups listed on and actually get a few hobbies outside of SharePoint.  I also know of a Rockband night at the Village Pourhouse in Manhattan every Tuesday night, which I intend to try and frequent on a weekly basis if possible.  I would also like to get to the NY SharePoint User Group at least a couple times this year.  I haven’t been to  a local user group in ages.  This does not mean I’m leaving SPS NYC.  We have a bunch of other people helping out and a lot of things that will get done as a collective like it always has been.  Overall I think 2011 will be a good year in total as long as I can make sure I stick to my goals that include making SharePoint less of my entire life and including other things.  I have at least started to do other things, such as trivia night weekly when I am in town on Thursdays with my boyfriend.  Hopefully, in a month I can blog about my progress and discuss all the really cool things that I have seen in the city that are non SharePoint related.  Hopefully I can also spend more time blogging about SharePoint while I am away from events too.  See you all around!
