Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.
So many people twittering, myself included.

It makes me wonder if this is a good or bad thing. SHanselman pointed out earlier this week that his wife doesn't necessarily think it's so great. I guess she has a point, are Twitterers so self-important that we feel people need to know our every move? Do you care that I'm stuck in traffic, or what I had for dinner?

Then of course there are the self-promoting Twitterers (although, really, aren't we all?) that tweet every time they make a blog post, like WilW. Is RSS not enough for syndication? Do I need to be told to check the feed?

I'm certainly no better. Do people need to know that Ninja blood is hard to get out of a shirt? Do people care that I beat Rock Band last night?  That I killed a monk?

And what about the conversations that float across Twitter. This just might be the worst, most insidious of all. You pretty much have to add the other people to your twitter just so you know what's going on. Once you're sucked in... then you're adding more people.

Is the mark of a popular Twitterer someone who has significantly more people following him, than he or she follows?  Conversely, what does it say about those who follow over 1000 people. How can you possibly filter anything worthwhile from all that noise?

Is putting yourself out there for the world to see a good thing or a bad thing? Are there things you won't Twitter, and why not? I certainly don't need to hear about people's bathroom breaks, but it's out there. I'm not terribly interested in what you had for breakfast either.

On the other hand, SHanselman has some pretty funny conversations with his two year old, and knowing Darcy_Lussier is experiencing airline bliss like the rest of us ain't so bad either.

Time to go. Those damn Ninjas are coming back. Maybe they need Twitter too, then I'd be ready.. Posted on Monday, April 21, 2008 9:40 AM General Interest | Back to top

Hmmm...interesting points. I guess I don't tend to think about things like this too much (maybe I should more). I'm enjoying Twitter, therefore it's good. When I don't enjoy it anymore, then it's bad.

I know that Twitter has helped me a lot in meeting new people and seeing sides of people I never would have been exposed to before. I think it's great at building community.

I think Twitter is a great complement to bloggers, helps fill in those spaces between posts. Going to be interesting to see how it grows or dies.

Until then, for dinner tonight I'm going to be having....
